Application:
Glycerol for injection is an important excipient, possessing multi-functional physical and chemical properties. Its application in injectable products mainly includes the following four aspects: The primary role of glycerol in injectable formulations is to serve as an osmotic pressure regulator, ensuring the formulation is isotonic with human plasma and thereby preventing hemolysis or tissue damage that may result from inappropriate osmotic pressure; In nutritional support therapy, glycerol serves as a key excipient in fat emulsion injections, providing energy and contributing to the stabilization of components in parenteral nutrition formulations; In biologics, particularly in protein-based drugs and vaccines, glycerol can function as a humectant to prevent drug denaturation. Under alkaline conditions, high concentrations of glycerol may inhibit drug hydrolysis;Taking advantage of its good water solubility and low toxicity, glycerol can be used as a solvent and a drug carrier to solubilize lipid-soluble drugs.
| Application | Function | Example |
| Injection | Solvent | Argatroban Injection |
| Osmotic pressure regulator | Compound Amino Acid Injection(14AA) | |
| Nutritional ingredient | Fat Emulsion Injection | |
| Biologics | Stabilizer | Compound Glycerol Solution |
Incompatibility: Incompatible with strong oxidants (chromium trioxide, potassium chlorate, potassium permanganate, etc.), bismuth subnitrate, zinc oxide, iron, boric acid.Safety: Generally considered non-toxic and can be digested. The adverse reactions mainly result from the dehydrating property of glycerol. High-dose non-gastrointestinal administration can lead to hemolysis and kidney damage.
